Instruments followup

Posted in music, trumpet at 10:48 pm by fredsienkiewicz

Just a quick followup to my lengthy last post about our stolen instruments. The good news for all of this is that without too much cajoling our insurance companies were happy to pay up. For Kristen, her horn was insured through an instrument insurance policy for $10,500 and my parent’s homeowners paid up $5400 for my horns. We haven’t had any bites at finding the stolen instruments and as far as we can do anything abouth them, they’re gone. But we’re moving on well, I’ve got a new Yamaha C Trumpet (YTR-9445CHS) and I’m looking into the paired B-flat…

As far as getting instrument insurance goes, I’ve decided to enroll in an insurance plan with Clarion Associates, Inc. As a student at NEC I get a group rate discount on insurance and their coverage seems to be one of the most comprehensive around. Plus, their sales rep gave me a very friendly phone call as soon as I was done filling out the web form for a quote, which is better than I can say for most of the other companies I looked at (MusicPro, Heritage Insurance Services, and DeWitt-Stern Group/AXA-Art).

Thanks again to everyone for the empathy, loans of instruments, support and help in this process. It’s been rough but it could have been a lot worse.

Update (1 October): I haven’t posted many of the details here about the actual theft itself, so if anyone is really interested in the whole story, I have posted the Theft Narrative that I prepared for the insurance company.
